Registerd Yoga Teacher to host Veterans Yoga Project fundraising event in Skaneateles

SKANEATELES | Registered Yoga Teacher Courtney Chase is partnering with Veterans Yoga Project as part of a national week-long fundraising and awareness-raising event.

More than 100 yoga teachers and studios across the country will host donation-based classes during the week of Veterans Day, Nov. 6-15, to raise money for programs that support veterans, their families and their communities.

Chase will teach a gentle yoga and meditation class open to all levels at the Skaneateles United Methodist Church from 6:45 to 7:45 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 12.

The Veterans Yoga Project is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity on a mission to support the mindful use of yoga therapy to aid recovery and resilience among veterans, their families and their communities.

"I've been doing this for awhile, and in my experience, nothing helps veterans with recovery and resilience more effectively than yoga and mindfulness practice," said Dr. Daniel Libby, executive director of the Veterans Yoga Project. "The transformations that we've helped support are nothing less than miraculous. I've seen veterans turn resentment and anger into connection and acceptance, insomnia into deep, restful sleep, physical debilitating pain into easy, pain-free movement.”

Nearly 3 million men and women have served in the military since Sept. 11, 2001. Approximately half of these service members are dealing with post-traumatic stress, chronic pain, depression or anxiety.

In addition, there are approximately 12 million living veterans from previous conflicts also still in the process of recovering from the wounds of war.

By providing yoga teacher training programs, practice resources for veterans and healing retreats, Veterans Yoga Project has supported the recovery and resilience-building process of thousands of military veterans and their family members. Please consider supporting this good work.

Chase is proud to support the Veterans Yoga Project.

“We have the opportunity to come together as a community and bring awareness to a very important cause," she said. "Each of us can help veterans and their families through yoga. Help them heal from within. If you are unable to join us for the class, please go online and make a donation.”
